Viral Swiss Jetman Video Shows Wild Grand Canyon Ride (WATCH)

A guy nicknamed the Swiss Jetman can be seen rocketing across the Grand Canyon in a viral Youtube video that would make Evel Knievel proud. Finally, the world of Internet Memes gets a break from the savage beat downs and lightning strikes that we’ve grown accustomed to. I mean, how many times can you watch someone get beaten until they break out into a seizure? Shew. So, today I came across an awesome video of a crazy Swiss guy named Yves Rossy who has a contraption he straps to his back that looks like an advanced jet pack. This thing is capable of propelling him at speeds upwards of 200MPH, and he’s not afraid to push it to the limit (queue music). So far the video has nearly 500,000 views, which I expect will double by the end of the week. It is absolutely nuts. He basically jumps out of a helicopter high above the canyon, then drops like a rock. After a few seconds he fires up the jets and takes off like Iron Man, leaving thick contrails behind him like a mini-jet liner. He zooms around for a while before slowing down to pull a parachute. Lindsay Lohan Pleads No Contest To Theft, Avoids Going To Jail

Late last month it was reported that Lindsay Lohan decided to plead no contest to misdemeanor theft and today she did just that. Lohan‘s attorney Shawn Chapman Holley entered Lindsay‘s no contest plea today and was happily met with a very light sentence for the crime. Judge Stephanie Sautner decided to punish Lohan by sentencing [...]

So my day yesterday was a total snoozefest … literally. Thankfully, I’m starting to feel better from the ill effects I suffered over the weekend but I am still not back to 100%. I did manage to rest up yesterday … which isn’t all too exciting but did help me feel better today.

If you can believe it, there were rumors of a secret Prince concert at a tiny club here in Hollywood last night and I managed to get ready to fly out the door … just in case (yes, I know, I’m crazy). There were rumors flying all over the place about where Prince might show up … in the end, I understand the plans fell thru with the booking venue and the secret show never happened. Tickets for this Friday and Saturday night did go on sale at noon so … some friends and I will be seeing Prince a couple more times this coming weekend.

Tonight, Darion and I are going to a special movie screening that I can’t really talk about just yet. But we are both very excited and looking forward to a fun night out :D

What Makes Millinery a Lingering Art

There are many options for those who want to take guitar lessons. First consider the goal of taking instruction and the amount of time and money the student is willing to spend learning the craft. Next, the student will have to decide what type of lessons to take, as there are several methods of learning. There should also be some consideration of the style and genre of music to be learned.

On tonight’s episode of Glee, Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) duets with Jesse St. James (Jonathan Groff) on Adele‘s stunningly beautiful song Rolling in the Deep. So these cold-like symptoms that I picked up over the weekend have been kicking my butt a bit. I wouldn’t say I’m really “sick” per se but I have been feeling kinda crappy for the past couple of days. Sore throat, runny/stuffy nose and some body aches … you know, the usual. I ended up staying home all day yesterday which actually turned out to be a great idea because I was able to watch a bunch of episodes of the brilliant 90′s teen drama My So-Called Life on Netflix.

Now, I’ve owned My So-Called Life on DVD for years now … but I never got around to watching the show. In fact, I haven’t watched the show since it aired on TV back in 94-95. I had forgotten how amazingly well written the show is and watching the first few eps last night reminded me of what a groundbreaking and important show it truly was. Of course, good shows don’t necessarily mean good ratings and My So-Called Life was canceled way before it should’ve been. My So-Called Life featured an openly gay teen character (Ricky, played by Wilson Cruz) YEARS before anyone else and it really told stories that were really real. The writing is the best thing about the show, yes, but the acting performances by the young cast (Claire Danes, Jared Leto, etc) is also really remarkable. I know that some of you young’ns out there have never seen or even heard of My So-Called Life … but for those of you who do remember the show, I urge you to take another look. It deffo holds up as a great show. I may not have been feeling all that well last night but at least I was able to enjoy my evening with the My So-Called Life kids ;)

No plans for tonight … I’ll prolly keep recuperating. We’ll see. Happy Tuesday!!

Jersey Shores Angelina Pivarnick Is Pregnant

Angelina Pivarnick, who was on Jersey Shore for a hot second, is preggers! Who is surprised that someone from that show got knocked up, not me! The former cast off who reportedly left the show because of trust issues has confirmed she is pregnant but is not spilling who’s the baby daddy. She may be keeping her trap shut for once but sources are saying it is Dave Kovacs the man who popped the question to her on the Red Carpet a couple of months ago. I certainly hope it is his or that could make for quite the awkward situation and she just might have some explaining to do. It was really only a matter of time before someone from The Jersey Shore show ended up either getting knocked up or knocking someone up but I certainly didn’t think it would be the one that couldn’t hack it in the house. My money was on Snooki or The Situation, or Pauly D. The news of her engagement and baby is certainly keeping Angelina’s five seconds of fame going as will the arrival of the little bambino whenever that is. Anyone want to share their thoughts on what kind of [...]

William and Kate: Wedding of the Year Details!!

Prince William and Kate Middelton will marry in just a few short hours and it is all anyone can talk about! It is understandable, the couple is hosting the event of the decade! The big day is just around the corner, Kate Middleton will soon marry her Prince and an estimated 2 billion people from around the world will watch, while 1900 invited guests will be in the church. It is being called the wedding of the year, but it is so much more than that. It is the wedding of the decade! I have butterflies for Kate, so I can imagine how the future Princess feels. Speaking of Princess I bet you are wondering how the titles work and what will change once she officially marries into the Royal family. I know I was curious! Here is how it works: Once married, Kate will become Her Royal Highness Princess William of Wales, though the media will inaccurately shorten her title to Princess Catherine, a title that is legally reserved for Princesses of birth. Additionally, upon marriage, royal men receive a title as a gift, and it is expected that William will be named a Duke. According to The Daily [...]

The Tributes From Districts 6, 7 8 Have Been Cast In The Hunger Games

It’s been a few days since we’ve had a casting update from The Hunger Games and since that time, the new tributes have been piling up. Yesterday we saw a batch of really cute photos of Natalie Portman‘s babydaddy-to-be Benjamin Millepied dancing his buns off on the streets of NYC, NY. It turns out that Ben was actually filming a commercial for Yves St. Laurent. Today, we get to see a few more photos from the set of the YSL commercial shoot and as you can see from the photos below, Benjamin really got into the swing of things this time around.

Aww … I bet this commercial is going to turn out really well … but, I have to say, I’m kinda bummed that this turned out to be a commercial shoot and not an impromptu and random dance session. I really loved the idea that Benjamin was just walking along and then BAM! he decided to bust out some serious dance moves right there on the streets of NYC. Ah well … it’s still fun seeing him in action. Very soon, tho, Benjamin will really have cause to dance and celebrate because he’s about to become a father … and that alone is reason enough to dance in the streets ;D

The Most Poignant Elvis Costello Lyrics Of All

With so many Effects Pedals out there, how is a musician to know what order they should be in when chaining them together? Eric Johnson and Jimi Hendrix used their wah-wah first in line. Carlos Santana puts a Tube Screamer before his wah-wah. Many artists bend the "rules" to get different sounds. There is no set "Rules" for chaining your effects pedals, but there are some known standard pedal set-up.

Taylor Swift How to Get Great Tickets Closer to Taylor

12:30pm, Tuesday March 15th. I lay in bed with a nasty fever as I receive a call from the Deftones publicist letting me know Chino would be available for an interview at 3:30 that day. I knew I had an upcoming interview with him, but no idea it would be that soon, so needless to say, I was not completely prepared. Luckily, I, along with some close friends (who also love the Deftones) were able to come up with a quick interview in the short time we had! My gratitude goes out to them as well as Chino Moreno for taking the time to do the interview!

Yesterday was a totally chilled out day. Plans to hang out last night got pushed back to Wednesday and that left me with a very sunny and hot day here in LA to enjoy all by myself. I have just started to recover from my illness of late so it was nice to just relax and chill out … in the heat ;)

I got out of the house for a bit to soak up some sun, which was really nice. I toyed with the idea of hanging out at the beach but the traffic was a huge deterrent. I really just laid low, kept my Monday pretty simple. Tonight, tho, I am SO excited to FINALLY get to see Thor! I’ll be seeing the movie at a screening tonight and I’m just way too excited. Popcorn, candy and the god of Thunder? Yes, please!!

Happy Tuesday!!

My Own James Taylor Music Appreciation Society

I've been collecting books about The Beatles since my early teens, and I'm now nearing the age of 50, although I admit my trawl of Beatle-related volumes has diminished in the last ten years or so. However, I find it almost therapeutic to revisit some of those Beatles books I grew up poring over and I'd like to recommend five from my collection that I can safely class as being amongst the favourites of all the Beatles books I own.

In February we got our first look at the first teaser trailer for the upcoming prequel film X-Men: First Class. Today we get to check out the longer, full-length theatrical trailer that will begin showing in movie theaters ahead of new films. In this new trailer, we get to see some of the scenes that were featured in the first trailer but we also get to see new scenes featuring the teenage X-Men in action. Check out the trailer below.

OH yeah, I like this trailer MUCH more than the first one. I have a really good feeling about this X-Men prequel. My gut tells me that it will be the best of the bunch. I am really excited about seeing the origins of the X-Men and am looking forward to seeing the way the relationship between Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr grows … and then falls apart. I am SO excited for this film … June can’t get here soon enough for me.

Leeza Gibbons Gets Hitched!

Leeza Gibbons has some big news to share! Yep, she tied the knot in a super, secret wedding to fiance Steven Fenton…atta girl! Such an exciting time for the two lovebirds and their loving family! It was a family affair! The intimate and secretive wedding just happened days ago, with only Leeza’s children present for the ceromony, now that’s personal! What’s more is that 54-year old Gibbons and 41-year old Fenton were married at midnight on Wednesday, atop the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, a very sentimental location where the newlyweds had there very first date. They were surrounded by candlelight, decorated with white roses from their Beverly Hills love nest and joined in holy matrimony in front of Leeza’s three kids…can it get any better than that? Yes it can. Not only was Gibbons children present, but the kids actually conducted the ceremony themselves! Leeza’s daughter Lexi and son Troy became ordained ministers online and officiated, while her other son Nathan exchanged rings which each ring signified each member of their family. How neat is that! With the exciting news just breaking today, Leeza admits that they are “living the fairytale.” The new Mr. and Mrs met on a [...]

apple and google watching our every move

Better not use those smart phones for anything illicit…

Lately, there's been some paranoia concerns that iPhone and Android devices keep track of users' locations.

In a sketcherrific move by Apple, the company hasn't issued a statement on the subject, and Google's only response was to say that they "obtain permission to run all Android location tracking services, and that location data is not traceable to individual users."

Here are a couple of creepy tidbits to keep in mind:

-iPhones and iPads "collect time-stamped location coordinates" very frequently (as much as every few minutes)

-Google Androids collect location data AND send it to Google for advertising purposes

There's talk of potential lawsuits regarding this issue, and a privacy rights bill proposed by Sen. John Kerry and Sen. John McCain could def pick up some steam thanks to Apple and Google sketchiness.

Should we even be writing this? Are they monitoring us? OMG, ARE THEY WATCHING US RIGHT NOW????

LOLz.

Do U think Apple and Google are watching our every move?

Understanding Rap and Hip Hop Music

The Bravery hit the headlines in 2005 with their self title debut album, featuring the enormously catchy 'Honest Mistake'. On the back of this single with its curious mix of New Order-esque bouncing synth rhythms and classic rock soaring guitar lines, this angry young band achieved large scale success in the 'popular indie' market in the UK at the same time as the likes of the Kaiser Chiefs and The Killers. Fast forward to 2011, and the 'average punter' in London's music scene has probably never heard of The Bravery. Why? A dispute with their UK publisher meant that The Bravery couldn't release their music on this side of the Atlantic for the last 6 years. Selfish of those record company folks, right? Not to worry. The band is back now and, damn it, they're just as angry as they ever were! They proved as much in four performances during their month-long residency at the Hoxton Bar and Kitchen in London's East End.

This morning, al-Qaida took to militant websites to confirm to their followers that Osama Bin Laden is dead and in fact died at the hands of courageous Americans on Sunday.

Well, courageous to us. As you can imagine, they don't think too highly of us right now.

The statement released by Osama's duputies wished their "holy" leader be blessed by God and vowed retaliation on America for his death. Their statement reads:

"The blood of the holy warrior sheik, Osama bin Laden, God bless him, is too precious to us and to all Muslims to go in vain. We will remain, God willing, a curse chasing the Americans and their agents, following them outside and inside their countries.

Soon, God willing, their happiness will turn to sadness, their blood will be mingled with their tears."

Uh-huh. That's what you think. In the words of Hillary Clinton, "You cannot defeat us." We're already putting the kibosh on one of your attacks right now!

Turns out, shortly after the al-Qaida released their confirmation, materials obtained by the Navy SEALs who killed the al-Qaida leader revealed that the terrorists were planning on derailing an American train on the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. One idea outlined in handwritten notes, presumed to be from February 2010, was to "tamper with an unspecified U.S. rail track so that a train would fall off the track at a valley or a bridge."

Consider that plan DONEZO!

Oh no! The Broadway curse has weaseled its way onto the set of the new Spider-Man movie!

Thankfully, no one was hurt!

Three production grips found themselves trapped mid-air yesterday for three hours while working on the new movie, The Amazing Spider-Man, in Manhattan. The grips were attempting to build a platform six stories high that would support a camera set up on the roof of a building in Chinatown when a malfunction occurred on the crane they were on.

It took the FDNY three hours to finally rescue the three men as the computers for the crane, as one of the grips explained later, "went blank…like someone turned off the dark switch."

Thankfully, firefighters were finally able to get use of a cherrypicker - a crane on a truck with a basket at the end - and got the men down safely. With no one hurt and with every precaution taken to ensure the men were safe from further danger, we think the movie's fairing much better than the Broadway show has.

Let's just hope this isn't a bad omen for worse things to come!

Cheap Electric Guitars How Can I Effectively Care For Them?

Guitar effects pedals come in a wide variety but the fact is that most guitar effects are just variations on four basic themes: Distortion, Dynamics, Reverb/Delay, and Pitch Modulation. They also come in a variety of configurations which were initially, single effects built into pedals, called stomp boxes, which grew into multi-effects processors built into both floor pedals, rackmount, and tabletop units. Many also include drum machines and headphone jacks for practice purposes.

Is George Jones the Best Country Singer Ever?

Rockabilly music spanned a surprisingly wide range of styles. Some acts were more country and others more blues. Some were characteristically wild while others were a bit more polished. So which acts really define the genre? Of all the acts that made rockabilly music throughout the mid to late 1950s, there are a few that really have to be considered mandatory listening for fans of rockabilly music.

Breakcore is a genre of electronic music that has grown out of other related music scenes such as IDM, drum and bass, hardcore techno, noise and industrial music. Musically, breakcore tends to feature heavy use of distorted kick drums, drum "breaks" (recordings of drum beats played repeatedly in a loop) and sampling from a wide variety of sources, played at high speeds.

Evan Rachel Wood Reveals Her Bisexuality

Last week Evan Rachel Wood opened up to New York magazine about her failed relationship with Marilyn Manson … and this week she opens up to Esquire magazine about her sexuality. ERW reveals to the magazine that she considers herself bisexual … she is into both “nice guys” and “nice girls”. Read on for more [...]

Last night David and I hung out with a group of friends last night that included Cara — who we hadn’t hung out with in ages — and Shane & Jordan, who we always make sure to spend time with when we’re in the city. We convened for dinner at The Smith in the East Village and then made our way to Splash Bar for Musical Monday. We had a blast, primarily because we were in such great company.

Cara is my girl who I’ve known for years but we realized that it had been FAR too long since we hung out together here in the city. Last night was our chance to remedy the fact that we hadn’t seen one another in a while and we picked up as if no time had passed. Shane is one of David’s BFFs so we always make sure to spend time with him here in the city … and randomly, we always run into Jordan here in NYC when we happen to be here. I have to tell you, I am a very lucky person. I know the coolest people in the world and I feel so blessed to count them as friends. That Cara and I can pick up after a few years as if no time has passed is just so wonderful. And there are few people in the world that make me as happy as Jordan does. We ate, we drank and were very merry here last night so … it was a very good night.

Tonight, David and I will be seeing Catch Me If You Can on Broadway. Catch Me stars Kerry Butler, who I met when she was starring in Xanadu and LOVED in Rock of Ages. I am very excited to see her in this new show. It’s supposed to be rainy tonight but I don’t think anything can dampen my spirits today. Happy Tuesday, y’all!!

Beat Shop

Ask any rockabilly fan to name their top-10 most-influential rockabilly musicians and it's almost a guarantee that the name Eddie Cochran will appear toward the top of the list. As I sit down to write this article it's the 51 anniversary of Cochran's tragic death on April 17, 1960 in a late-night car crash while on tour in England. Eddie Cochran had only scored a few hit singles in his short career, but his influence on the future of rock and roll can not be overestimated.

Sad and very disappointing news to pass along today Disney Animation fans … according to the company itself, The Walt Disney Company will no longer produce animated/musical films based on classic fairy tales. Tangled, Disney‘s modern take on Rapunzel, hits theaters next week and altho the film will not be presented in traditional 2D animation, it will feature a classic fairy tale story (like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) set to a musical soundtrack (like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin) … and, sadly, it will be the last Disney animated feature to do so … at least for the “foreseeable future”:

Once upon a time, there was a studio in Burbank that spun classic fairy tales into silver-screen gold. But now the curtain is falling on “princess movies,” which have been a part of Disney Animation’s heritage since the 1937 debut of its first feature film, “Snow White.” The studio’s Wednesday release of “Tangled,” a contemporary retelling of the Rapunzel story, will be the last fairy tale produced by Disney’s animation group for the foreseeable future. “Films and genres do run a course,” said Pixar Animation Studios chief Ed Catmull, who along with director John Lasseter oversees Disney Animation. “They may come back later because someone has a fresh take on it … but we don’t have any other musicals or fairy tales lined up.” Indeed, Catmull and Lasseter killed two other fairy tale movies that had been in development, “The Snow Queen” and “Jack and the Beanstalk.” To appreciate what a sea change this is for the company, consider that a fairy tale castle is a landmark at Disney theme parks around the world and is embedded in the Walt Disney Pictures logo. Fairy tale characters from Disney’s movies populate the parks, drive sales of merchandise and serve as the inspiration for Broadway musicals … Over the decades, Disney has benefited from the ticket sales and licensing revenue generated by such princess-driven properties as “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin.” The studio’s most recent offering, however, was a clear disappointment. Although critically acclaimed, last year’s “The Princess and the Frog” was the most poorly performing of Disney’s recent fairy tales. In the age of mega-franchises when movies need to appeal to a broad audience to justify a sizable investment, Disney discovered too late that “Princess and the Frog” appealed to too narrow an audience: little girls. This prompted the studio to change the name of its Rapunzel movie to the gender-neutral “Tangled” and shift the lens of its marketing to the film’s swashbuckling male costar, Flynn Rider …

The article excerpt continues, after the jump …

So why has the clock struck midnight for Disney’s fairy tales? Among girls, princesses and the romanticized ideal they represent — revolving around finding the man of your dreams — have a limited shelf life. With the advent of “tween” TV, the tiara-wearing ideal of femininity has been supplanted by new adolescent role models such as the Disney Channel’s Selena Gomez and Nickelodeon’s Miranda Cosgrove. “By the time they’re 5 or 6, they’re not interested in being princesses,” said Dafna Lemish, chairwoman of the radio and TV department at Southern Illinois University and an expert in the role of media in children’s lives. “They’re interested in being hot, in being cool. Clearly, they see this is what society values” … “You’ve got to go with the times,” MGA Chief Executive Isaac Larian said. “You can’t keep selling what the mothers and the fathers played with before. You’ve got to see life through their lens” … Bonnie Arnold, an animation veteran who most recently produced DreamWorks Animation’s “How to Train Your Dragon,” said animated films must vie in the cineplex with effects-laden action films that a generation ago might have been considered more mature fare. “You see elementary school kids standing in line to see ‘Iron Man’ or ‘Transformers,’ ” Arnold said. “To be honest, that’s who we’re all competing with on some level.” In an effort to give the Rapunzel story a more contemporary feel, Catmull and Lasseter pushed the reset button in 2008 and brought in a new directing duo who had both worked on Disney’s animated movie “Bolt.” The Rapunzel film underwent a “total restart,” Catmull said: All the prior work was scrapped and the movie was reconceived as a musical with five songs by Disney’s veteran, multiple-Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken. The only surviving elements, Catmull said, were “the hair, the tower and Rapunzel.”

The company feels that the use of fairy tales, a tradition upon which Disney Animation feature films was founded on back in 1936 with Snow White, has “run its course” and that they must focus on new stories to win “wider appeal”. I personally think this is bullshizz. While I LOVE new, original stories like Toy Story, Up!, Monster’s Inc., etc. I really feel that the heart and soul of Disney animation (and animated films in general) comes from the retelling of classic fairy tales. Fairy tales resonate within all of us … they are ancient tales that spark archetypes in our collective psyches and give us all a familiar point of reference to respond to. I don’t understand why there needs to be a complete cut off of that spark. The new animated films are fantastic, yes, but I’m really bummed that classic tales will be thrown by the wayside in order to appeal to a wider audience. Why can’t they alternate new and old stories? Why can’t they, at the very least, put out a classic fairy tale every other year … every 5th year, something? IMHO, the new stories told by Disney/Pixar have a decidedly Western feel to them (like Cars) … while classic fairy tales (like Aladdin, for example) have a much wider appeal. I dunno … this news just really rubs me the wrong way. What do y’all think … are you bothered at all by this news? Do you think telling fairy tales has “run its course” or do you, like me, believe that there is still merit and entertainment to be had in modern retellings of classic fairy tales?

Guitar Bridge Variations on Acoustic Guitar Bridges

Started by the unique Black Sabbath while they tangled Heavy Blues sounds into a Heavy style of Metal all of their own, Doom Metal has become a whole genre in it's own right, now loved by a growing cult-following of Metal Heads. As well known bands such as Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica were shredding away at the faster Thrash Metal of the early 80's, less well-known groups were slowing down the tempo and pioneering the Doom genre. Often using gloomy and dark vocals, Doom is usually played at a slower pace than classic Heavy Metal or Hard Rock, and is always of a scarier and groovier sound than some of the more well-known styles of Heavy Metal.

Janet Jackson Announces A New World Tour

Great news to pass along today, Janet Jackson fans. Hot on the heels of a very successful and bizzy year, Janet has announced today that she will be embarking on her “largest world tour” ever in 2011 by visiting 35 cities in honor of the 35 number one singles that she has enjoyed in her [...]

Last night David and I met up for drinks with our friend Jordan who we haven’t seen in quite a few weeks. That boy is always so bizzy flying around the world that it’s really hard to pin him down to just one location for very long. We hooked up with him at Saint Felix in West Hollywood, CA for some drinks and conversation … and we got to share our time with the fabulous Billy Dee Williams:

Jordan then dragged us to a milkshake place so that we could indulge in horribly fattening yet absolutely delicious candy bar-filled milkshakes together. We kept it casual but fun … ’twas a nice night out on the town.

Tonight, I’ll be swinging by the movie theater to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and then later on tonight, I’ll be making my way to the Viper Room on the Sunset Strip to see American Hi-Fi LIVE in concert! It’s Friday, it’s the Weekend! I hope you have a great one!!

alex trebek to guest star on how i met your mother

All we want for Christmas is an unexpected, kind of bizarre cameo on a popular TV show.

Looks like our wish is about be granted!

Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek will appear on the Christmas episode of How I Met Your Mother on Dec 13.

Here's what the show's co-creator Carter Bays had to say about the episode:

"It's our twisted version of A Christmas Carol-type story. We see what it takes to get people back on track and start leading the life they're supposed to be leading."

Sounds inneresting. Now if only we could get Pat Sajak to guest star on a Two and a Half Men Christmas episode, we'd be all set!

What strange cameos would U like to see on TV shows?

How to Make Your Own Hip Hop Beats Why You Need Beat Making Software

Freestyle music is also known as Latin Hip Hop. Freestyle is a form of electronic music often using electronic drums and other synthesized beats. I became familiar with this style of music in the late 1980s when it was very popular. I was in college at the time and had a friend who was really into dance music. In fact, he was a DJ. I heard these songs on the radio, in dance clubs, and on cassette tapes.

How can it be that a relatively new artist, like Lady Gaga, is causing the music charts to explode? If I have to guess it has to do with three factors: her looks (fashion), her sexuality (taboo) and her music (art). One can definitely say that it has helped lady G to conquer the top in such short time, but one can also conclude that this isn't the golden formula which'll make just any 'Jane Doe' a superstar.

OK … so I think I finally have some semi-official and somewhat definitive news regarding the release of Britney Spears‘s new single Hold It Against Me. I was contacted, along with a selection of other bloggers, by Britney‘s record label to be part of a fun fan-driven Facebook campaign to help get Brit‘s single released. If everything goes according to plan, it will be the concerted effort of Britney‘s fans that will get the song released at last.

The way it will work is YOU fans will be asked to spread a special message on your Facebook pages and once 2 million fans share the message, the song will automatically unlock and be released. In the coming days, a customized Pink is the new Blog widget will appear here on the site and then it will be up to YOU to use the widget to spread the message on Facebook. Thus far, there has been no official date released as to when this Facebook campaign will go down but I’m hearing it could be as early as next Monday January 10 … but, as with all the release dates we’ve been hearing, we cannot be sure of anything just yet. Know this, Britney‘s new song will be unlocked within hours if not minutes of the Facebook campaign’s launch.

Now, I should clarify … it’s not clear if the song will actually unlock and be heard on Facebook or if the campaign will merely play out on Facebook and the song will unlock on some official website … but it is clear that fans will have to spread the message on Facebook to unlock the song and get it released.

I’m certain it will not be difficult to get 2 million people to work together in order to get Hold It Against Me released. Be ready … I’m counting on all y’all to help get Britney‘s song released! I know I can’t wait a second longer than necessary — can you?

A few weeks ago, I finally finished reading the final book of The Hunger Games trilogy … Mockingjay. Because David and I were traveling and then a host of other things distracted me, I never got the chance to blog about the book. Now that all of the tributes have been cast for the upcoming Hunger Games film, I’m really getting anxious to see the story brought to life on the big screen. Read on for some of my (possibly spoilery) thoughts on the final book of the Hunger Games trilogy.

To be honest, I kinda had a feeling that the final book was not going to end on a happy note. Considering the way that Catching Fire ended, it was plainly obvious that the final book was going to be war-centric. I can understand why some fans feel that Mockingjay is the worst of the 3 books but I honestly loved it … and felt that, in the end, the trilogy stands as an excellent series of books. My guess is that the folks who do not care for Mockingjay take great issue with the fact that the book did not end happily. I can think of one death in particular that prolly angered a great many fans. Because that death took such an innocent character, it makes sense that there would be anger. Mockingjay makes the excellent point, tho, that War is Hell. Death can strike anyone … and even the people who you thought were the good guys sometimes do bad things. I can only judge Mockingjay in context with the two previous books … and as a trilogy, I loved The Hunger Games. I’m not going to lie tho … I did have strong feelings when I finished the book. I was obviously sad and angry … but any book that can make me feel that way has to be a damn good book. I am really curious to see how these tales will be told on the big screen. The first film will really give us a good idea of how well the books will be represented on the screen.

I’m curious … can those of you who have strong feelings — either good or bad — about the final book chime in? I’d love to hear what other people think of the book.

It’s Friday and time for the weekend. My dear friend Monique is visiting LA this weekend from Hong Kong and we are going with my friend Eileen to see Prince at The Forum. Yes, I know … more Prince? Yep. As I said, I will see him as many times as I can while he is still playing here. It’s so crazy to get to see one of your fave musicians over and over and over and for such a small price. Let the weekend commence!!
